The fact of immortality and the fact of death as departure can only come through people but not through laboratory experiments. It was so in the past, it is so now and will be so in the future.
Those who want to know death, should submit themselves to a specific process. Each one says ‘I am’. This I am consciousness awakens, conducts for a while and absorbs itself into something unknown and re-emerges. Such absorption, such emergence, activity, merger and re-emergence shall have to be thought over. From where is this awareness of ‘I am’ emerging, what happened to it while in sleep? How did it awake itself if it did not exist? These should be the questions for thinking men. There is something in each one of us, which ever exists. With that something as background there is awakening, activity, dream and sleep.
If something is not ever existing, how could this I am consciousness emerge by itself. It demands understanding of the path to sleep and the path from sleep and the state of existence during sleep. We all know that we do exist in sleep. Because of that knowledge we comfortably proceed to sleep. If we are not certain that we exist in sleep we do not dare to sleep. We resist sleep as much. In spite of us, sleep overtakes and sets us in another state of being of which we are unconscious. This so called unconscious state is called super conscious state. It means, it is a state of consciousness beyond the normal conscious state. It is from that fourth state we awaken, we dream and we sleep.
To understand this fourth state, one should try to experiment oneself to investigate one’s own sleep to the extent possible. Penitence enabled some of the ancients to realize that they existed even beyond sleep and that they consciously enter into the normal state of awakening. They therefore affirmed that a major part of one’s being sleeps while a minor part which is the root of oneself never sleeps. This unsleeping root awareness or consciousness unfolds from sleep into awakening and at the end of activity calls back the awareness into itself and remains as root awareness or seed awareness. It is like a seed unfolding into a tree without losing its seed principle. Through the seed again the tree emerges. These dimensions can be experienced only by those who experiment themselves. Any degree of explanation remains only as information.
When one touches the core of one’s own being one knows this. That core is the supreme centre from where everything unfolds by the day and folds back by night.
To reach one’s own core one should travel within. One should develop a mind that dwells deep within, contrary to a mind which normally moves around and moves away to farther lands. The more and more the mind is allowed to wander in the outer world, the more and more it becomes difficult to bring it back. The fundamental process to move towards the core of one’s being is to turn the mind inward. Then, dip it deep into one’s own pulsation via respiration and start an investigative enquiry into the deeper side of one’s being. One meets one’s own psyche as one enters into oneself. One should pursue further to move towards the background of any form of thought until the clouds of thoughts are cleared. Then, one encounters light. Even that light is not the core of the being. The source of that light shall have to be approached through persistent effort. Then one meets the core of one’s being and knows that it is ever stable, from where every impulse of light and life is springing up.
Gautama, the Buddha persistently enquired into himself with much will, undeterred by the surroundings. He touched the core of his being which he realized as the source of all emergences and likened it to a jewel in a lotus (Manipadma). He realized that there is no death.
Death is to the various layers of the being which emerge, grow, and stay for a duration, later retreat and fall. It is not for the very core. It does not suffer any of these modifications. A seed remains as a seed principle while thousands of transitions happen to it resulting in a tree with branches, sub-branches with stack, leaves, flowers and fruits. Since the seed principle continues it forms itself once again in the flower or in the fruit and continues for another cycle and another cycle and so on. Such continuity is seen in nature. Such continuity can also be seen in man whose root is in his seventh tissue called the sperm or the ovum. It is the underlying tissue and can be further evolved in three steps to reach its original state.
In a nutshell, the key is meditation. The key to death is hidden in meditation.
