“Do you sleep well?” is the fundamental question that the physicians of the past enquired. The depth of sickness is known by the quality of the sleep. The physicians try to correct the state of sleeplessness for they know that the sleep is rest. It is no doubt rest for the dense body. When the dense body is at rest, it opens doors for the psyche to enter into the subtle world. Some even project their subtle bodies into far off realms. The physicians stress upon the outward importance of sleep which is but a means to illuminate the inner, the most important meaning of sleep.

“Sleep is like death.” Every sleep is but a withdrawal of the psyche from the surroundings. It is a matter of study and research – where does the psyche dwell during the sleep hours, where from it returns? When people come to know the real meaning of sleep they will be able to notice many more details relating to them. This statement should not be misunderstood as leading people into mediumistic tricks but to a condition that is natural to everyone. When people come to accept the real meaning of sleep they will be able to notice many details in sleep. Through dreams people dream of others, some of who are known while some others are unknown. People should realize that sleep brings them into contact with the subtle world, that very world which they refuse to believe in. Sleep is but one of the four states of man. Sleep is known by inference, man knows his awakened state and his dream state while he infers the sleep state. But even sleep is a state like the other two and requires to be explored. A proper approach to sleep with an enquiry as to what happens to oneself in sleep opens doors into the subtle side of the being that solves many riddles of one’s own life. One has to be open-minded to experiment on himself and not take himself granted.

Even the physicians would do well by listening to the dreams and dream contacts of the patients which would sometimes bring out astonishing clues.

This dimension relating to sleep may look to be very clear for an editorial but there is a saying: “We are given opportunity every night to follow beautiful paths.”
